The teacher is the most important person in the class for the child every day
When parents choose a school for their child, they often ask about the educational program, English, environment, class size, or connection to the Czech curriculum. All of this is important. But when a child enters the classroom in the morning, one person decides about his daily experience. Teacher.
It is the teacher who creates the atmosphere in which the child either opens up or withdraws. It is the teacher who notices that something is happening today, that the child needs encouragement, a bigger challenge, a calmer pace or just the feeling that someone really sees him. And it is the teacher who can make learning something that makes sense, not just a list of tasks that need to be completed.
At Maple Bear Brno, we therefore pay a lot of attention to the selection of teachers. We are not only looking for qualified teachers. We are looking for people whose children are not a “group in the class”, but individual personalities. People who know how to lead with kindness and clarity. Who can create an environment where children feel safe, but at the same time grow, discover, think and learn to be independent.
Bilingual education needs more than just good English
Our teachers are guides to bilingual education for children. This does not mean that they just alternate between Czech and English. This means that they help children to function naturally in two languages, to think in context and not to be afraid to communicate.
At Maple Bear Brno, we build on the interconnection of the Czech FEP and the Canadian approach to education. Children do not lose their Czech roots, but at the same time gain openness, linguistic certainty and a way of thinking that opens doors for them further. English is not an isolated subject in our country. It is a natural tool of everyday life at school.
What we look for in teachers when choosing
When selecting teachers, professional qualifications are a natural start for us. We monitor experience, pedagogical skills, language level and the ability to work in a team. But just as important is what cannot be simply written in a CV.
We are interested in how the teacher talks to the children. How does he react when a child makes a mistake? If he knows how to listen. If he has the patience to explain things again and in a different way. If he can lead the class in such a way that there is peace, respect and a natural desire to learn.
We believe that a good teacher is not the one who always has the upper hand. A good teacher knows how to give children space, ask questions, encourage curiosity and at the same time keep clear boundaries. Children need kindness, but they also need structure. They need to know that the adult in the class is stable, fair and knows where they are going together.
What does this mean for a child in everyday school life
For parents, this means one important thing in practice. A child is not alone at school to perform. He has adults around him who know him, perceive him and help him grow not only academically, but also humanly.
Learning is then not just about what the child has mastered in the worksheet. It’s also about whether he’s not afraid to ask if he can cooperate, express his opinion, accept the mistake and try again. It is these skills that children carry into their lives.
At Maple Bear Brno, we work with small teams and an individual approach. The cooperation of teachers in the classroom is also of great value to us. Thanks to this, children can receive more attention, support and feedback. Some need more time, some need another challenge, some need encouragement. Our goal is for the child not to fit in with the crowd, but to have the space to be himself and gradually discover what is in him.
Teachers who want to learn on their own
An important part of our approach is that teachers themselves remain pupils. At Maple Bear, we believe in lifelong learning. A teacher who continues to develop, thinks about his work and looks for new ways, brings live energy to the classroom.
He does not teach only according to custom. He monitors what works for children, shares experiences with colleagues, draws on the know-how of the Maple Bear Global Academy and has the support of the school’s academic leadership.
This is also important for parents. This means that the quality of teaching is not only based on the individual who is alone in the classroom for everything. Teachers have support, methodological guidance and a team with whom they can consult things. The school is not a set of individual classes, but a living community that has a common direction.
School as a place where a child belongs
Maple Bear Brno is created as a place where children like to learn, because learning makes sense to them. The modern environment at Nová Zbrojovka is important to us, but it is not enough on its own. The real atmosphere of the school is made up of people.
Teachers who welcome children in the morning. Children who learn to cooperate. Parents who trust the school. And the everyday small moments that make up the feeling that the child belongs here.
We want the children of Maple Bear Brno to take away more than knowledge. We want them to take away a relationship with learning, healthy self-confidence, the courage to speak Czech and English, the ability to think, ask questions and look for solutions. We want them to know that failure is not a failure, but a natural part of the journey. And to experience school as a place where they can grow safely, with respect and joy.
So who are we looking for for the team
That is why we do not only look for teachers when selecting teachers. We are looking for personalities to whom we would like to entrust our children. People who can be kind and firm, professional and humane, curious and patient.
Because it is such teachers who help children grow into confident, sensitive and thoughtful people ready for a rapidly changing world. And this is one of the biggest commitments for us at Maple Bear Brno.
