Choosing a primary school for a child is not just a practical decision. For many parents, this is a very personal question. They are looking for a place where their child will feel good, where teachers will really know him, where he will learn meaningfully and where he will get a good foundation not only for school, but also for life.
There are many different options in Brno today. Classic primary schools, alternative schools, private schools and schools with an international reach. Each has its own style, its strengths and can be suitable for a different type of child and family. At Maple Bear Brno , we don’t try to say that there is only one right way. However, we believe that we offer a combination of things that parents often look for separately, and they will find them together with us.
1. English is not just a subject, but a natural part of the day
One of the biggest differences is the actual daily bilingual teaching. English is not just another subject in our schedule. Children naturally use it during the day, during activities, discovery, conversations and common school situations.
Teaching takes place in a 50:50 ratio in Czech and English, so children grow up in both languages naturally, without pressure and without the feeling that they are “just learning words”. Language becomes a tool for them, not a goal. At the same time, it is very important for us that children have a solid foundation in Czech and do not lose contact with the Czech environment.
2. We open the door to the world for children, but we stay at home
It is the connection between the world and home that is another thing that distinguishes us. We are not a classic international school that would take children out of the Czech educational context. We combine the Canadian approach to education with the Czech Framework Educational Program.
We open the door to the world for children, but at the same time they remain firmly anchored here, in their language, culture and environment. For parents, this means peace and security. The child gains an international reach, but does not lose its Czech roots.
3. Small classrooms where every child is really visible
The size of the classes and the personal approach are also very important to us. We believe that a young child needs to be seen at school. Not just as a name on the list, but as a personality with his strengths, questions, pace, emotions and needs.
Thanks to smaller teams and the presence of a Czech and English-speaking teacher, we can get to know the children better, perceive their progress and respond to what they need at the moment. Parents are thus more sure that their child will not disappear into the crowd and that someone will notice not only the results, but also how the child feels at school.
4. Learning that makes sense to children
Another difference is in the way of learning. Children do not sit passively at a desk all day and do not accept ready-made information. They learn through questions, exploration, creation, conversations, cooperation and practical situations.
We want them to really understand things, to be able to think, look for connections, ask questions and express their own opinions. We are not about memorizing for the test, but about a deeper understanding. A child takes more from such learning than knowledge of the subject matter. They learn independence, the courage to think, and the ability to cooperate with others.
5. A safe environment where children grow as personalities
Just as important to us as the academic side is the emotional well-being of the child. We know that a child learns best when he feels safe, accepted and trusts in his teachers. Therefore, the relationship between the child and the teacher is the basis of everything else for us.
We lead children with respect, kindness and clear boundaries. We teach them to perceive themselves and others, talk about what they are experiencing, resolve conflicts and build healthy self-confidence. For parents, this is often one of the most important things. They don’t just want a school where the child learns something. They want a school where they can look forward to and where they can grow as a person.
A school where a child learns, grows and remains himself
What we offer at Maple Bear Brno is therefore not just a “school with English”. It is an environment where bilingual teaching, Czech roots, Canadian inspiration, smaller collectives, active learning and a genuine interest in the child are combined. We believe that this combination gives children a strong foundation for the future.
Children learn two languages with us, but they do not lose themselves. They learn to explore the world, but at the same time they stay at home. They learn to think, cooperate, communicate and trust each other. And parents get the feeling that their child is in a school where they are not only educated, but also really seen. That’s the difference that matters, in our opinion.
